Liebster Blog Award!

Wowzers!  My first Blog Award!

What a nice surprise to find that Nichole of The Cookaholic Wife has given me a Liebster Blog Award!  Thanks Nichole!  She's an adventurous cook who shares all sorts of mouthwatering goodies on her site (especially the chocolate desserts), so run over and take a peek!

So what in the world is a Liebster Blog Award?  The coolest award idea in blogdom if you ask me.  Why?     Liebster (which means dearest or favorite in German), is an award given to favorite fellow bloggers with 200 followers or less, to help them connect with other bloggers and give them more exposure.

But that's only half the fun:  once you receive an award, you have the opportunity to pay it forward.  You get to nominate your favorite bloggers for a Liebster award too!

The Rules:

1.  You answer the 11 questions you're given (a fun way to let people get to know you a little more).
2.  Come up with 11 questions of your own.
3.  Pass the questions along to your favorite 11 bloggers with less than 200 followers, let them know you've     nominated them for the award, and ask them to answer the questions, then pay it forward.
4.  Make sure you link to your 11 nominees on your blog post so others can discover them too!
5. Add a Liebster Award Button to your post

And of course, don't forget to thank the person who nominated your blog!

Allrighty then, let's see what questions Nichole has chosen for me to answer:

1. You're in a huge kitchen supply store surrounded by absolutely everything you could ever need. But you can only buy ONE thing. What do you pick?

A bit like sending a kid into toys r us and expecting them to pick out just one isn't it?  Well, if I can only have one...it's gonna' be a pasta machine.

2. What is the most unusual thing you've ever made? Link?

I'd have to go with  Lime Mousse Meringata with white chocolate chunks, a blackberry sauce and sugared berries.  I made it for hubby on Valentines day - definitely different, and a show stopper!

3. If you're not blogging, what can we find you doing?

Baking (and eating) of course.  We moved to a new home within the last year, so I've been consumed with landscaping, and it's coming along nicely.   Other than that you'll find me hanging with my family and beloved bichon (13 going on 2 and sassy as ever), volunteering, going for long walks, decorating, and picking up playing guitar again.

4. Have you noticed that having a food blog really tends to mess with your waistline?

Oh  I've got my priorities "completely" straight.  You know we have to taste test a lot when creating confections , and I often get so full on sweet stuff that I don't have room for what I should eat - yes, definitely very "nutritious"!  Plus, I pawn off my goodies on the neighbors so that I won't do a face plant in the whole batch - so far that strategy has worked pretty well!

5. You're in a completely stocked kitchen with a sous chef and people to clean up after you. What do you make?

You really are making this tough aren't you!  I'm a big fan of all things mini, for everything from appetizers to desserts.  In fact, for dinner in our house, I often make a smorgasbord of several different types of apps - lots of fun, but it's lots of prep and loads of dishes to wash!  So...I'd make some of our favorite appetizers, and try a few new ones.  And of course there would be a variety of mini desserts too.  Here's my bucket list - well, you asked!
  • pork pot stickers - my son asks for these all the time.  They're adapted from Chef Ming Tsai's recipe, and I serve a couple of my secret sauces alongside for dipping.
  • chipotle meatballs - ordinary name, very extraordinary meatballs - these have cilantro, chipotle and bacon for a decidedly different kick.  We enjoy these often too.
  • steak and chimichurri crostini -  delicious bites of melt in your mouth tenderloin served on toasted baguette slices, with a dollop of my version of chimichurri - lots of cumin, lime and cilantro for a tangy kick.
  • lobster crisps in champagne-dill sauce - a recipe I've been wanting to try for a while - sophisiticated, and simply stunning.  It's over at Bon Appetit if you're interested.
  • and perhaps seafood coquille served on the half shell
  • Now for dessert (the best part of any meal, if you ask me)
  • I've been eyeballing a chocolate hazelnut marjoleine for quite some time - this masterpiece features layers of chocolate and hazelnut meringue, vanilla and praline cream, and a wicked good chocolate ganache.
  • profiteroles with vanilla bean crema pasticcera (Italian pastry cream), drizzled with chocolate.
  • macarons with a strawberry swiss meringue buttercream
  • bite size maple pecan pie -  the best pecan pie I've ever had - I'll share it with you this fall.
  • Bite size oreo key lime tartlets brulee
Whew, I'm tired just looking at that list.  Okay sous chef and cleanup crew, you've got your work cut out for you!

6. What is your favorite holiday?

Hands down - Christmas!  If you're talking favorite holiday meal, it would have to be sharing Thanksgiving meal with my family - hands down the best meal of the year. Salt brined turkey with fresh herb rub,  lots of stuffing, and a big wedge of pecan pie - just thinking about it makes my mouth water.

7. Coke or Pepsi?

This one's easy - coke, definitely.  What does that tell you about my age - okay, so I'm not from the "Pepsi" generation!

8. How did you come up with the name for your blog?

Actually, a dear friend of mine came up with it.   I'm aiming to spread a little joy by sharing my recipes and love of cooking,  with a sprinkle of faith and inspiration along the way  (you might have noticed at the bottom of many posts there are inspirational quotes).  She came up with the title for the blog that says it all!  Thanks Chele!

9. Do you have any pets?

And just who is top dog in our house?  Our beloved little mutt, of course!   She's a 13 year old bichon named Dijon (that one always gets a chuckle - Dijon the bichon).

10. What movie do you know all of the lines to?

Gone with the Wind.  Can't help it, I'm a sucker for that classic.

11. What's a food your city/town/state is famous for?

Moon pies and hot chicken are probably what our city is best known for.  Statewide it's probably barbecue, unless you count Jack Daniels!

Whew, that was tougher than I expected,  but it was even tougher choosing just 11 bloggers to nominate.  Congrats to all of the Liebster award winners below! Keep up the great blogging, we're looking forward to more drooling, er, great food!

And speaking of paying it forward:   over at a Pinch of Yum, Lindsay shares all sorts of delicious recipes and  blogging resources;  tips on getting a blog up and running, ways for increasing traffic to your blog, how to make your blog a source of income, and expert tips for taking the best photos to enhance your blog, plus much more.  Thanks Lindsay, you're a gem, we appreciate your kindness!  As if that isn't enough, she and her husband have uprooted and are spending a year in the Philippines, where she is teaching children at an orphanage, and the proceeds from her blog she donates to the orphanage as well.  Now, that's radical!  Be sure to check out her blog and find out more!

First, here are my 11 questions:

1.  How did you come up with the title for your blog?

2.  If you could invite 3 famous people from any time in history over for dinner, who would it be?

3.  Wine or Beer?

4.  You've won a week in a one-on-one cooking "boot camp", learning tips, tricks and techniques from a Master chef.  Who would you choose - Julia Child, Jacques Pepin, Gordon Ramsay, Mario Batali, Lydia Bastianich...?  Why?

5.  What 3 foods do you always have in your fridge?

6.  What is your favorite time of year?

7.  Your guilty pleasure?

9.  When you're not blogging, what do you like to do?

10.  Do you have a pet?

11.  What cooking show are you addicted to  most inspired by?
